bathroom flooringIn most homes, the smallest room of the house is the bathroom. If you are getting ready to do a bathroom renovation, you may be considering drastic measures to make your bathroom more inviting and spacious. Before you get out the sledgehammer to take out a wall, consider the following tips for bathroom flooring that can make the room appear larger than it actually is.

  • Tile Bathroom Flooring – If you are planning to go with tile in your new bathroom, there are three things that you can do to give the space a larger appearance. First, choose a larger tile instead of a smaller one. Avoid a tile that has designs or a border along the outer edges. The smoother the look across the floor, the bigger the room will appear. The second thing to do is install the tile on a diagonal to further trick the eye into thinking the room is larger. Finally, keep the coloring monochromatic to avoid contrast which can make a room look smaller.
  • Hardwood, Luxury Vinyl Planks or Laminate Bathroom Flooring – Go for wider planks instead of narrow planks for the same reason you’d choose larger tiles. You’ll have fewer lines to break up the view so it will look larger. If you do choose a dark color, which often can make a room look smaller, plan to contrast it with light colors throughout the rest of the room and have plenty of natural light in the room.
